As a mother, perhaps your most important
responsibility is to help your child develop into the best human being
possible. There is no better time to provide this opportunity than now.
Dr.
Philip Maffetone
Consultant to professional athletes,
Past president, The International College
of Applied Kinesiology
Research has shown, babies that swim, are far
better developed socially, mentally and physically. Did you know that
babies sleeping and eating patterns are improved by regular exercise?
Many parents arrange their evenings out around the day they
swim with their baby .
Medical
experts say that getting babies and toddlers involved in
exercise can lead to a healthy lifestyle in later years.
Getting
your baby used to
water early is important from a safety point of view and it's great fun
too.
"Your child won't be co-ordinated enough to learn to swim properly
until
he is two or three, but you can get him to feel confident and relaxed
in the
water and make swimming a fun way to exercise for both of you," says
midwife and health visitor Julia Youll.
Swimming is a fantastic activity for babies. By
attending the pool regularly, you could be:
- Teaching your baby the basic safety skills
which could one day save his life - jumping in, turning around, holding
on, swimming back to the side and back floating
- Enhancing his physical development - strength,
fitness, co-ordination and early muscle formation
- Improving his social and behavioural habits
– stimulation and regulating eating and sleeping patterns

Baby Swimming also Prevents
Drowning and instills confidence
The older kids get the more they develop fears and
inhibitions. Sometimes these fears can already have taken hold by ten
to fifteen months
of age.
Not teaching a baby to swim early could easily lead to fears in future
making it up to 12 times
harder to figure out swimming.
Dear Parent,
Fact is, that the earlier we teach a child to swim, the less likeley it
is that they're to drown at an older age. Children that don't learn to
swim can also be socially odd when all their friends head to the pool.
You may face challenges when trying to fight with them to take a
bath or have less confidence in boats... and also just miss out on a
ton of fun!!!
All
Babies are born able to swim,
Its part of their inherited
memory.
Just as they know how to cling with their hands.
 |
Is
there anything more pleasurable
than having a new born baby grip your finger?
|
The instinct to
swim is primeval, and is part of our inherited memory, it dates back to
the time before man, as we know him, walked the earth
We must be clear
what we are talking about here. We are not saying that your new
born baby can perform physical strokes like the Crawl, or the
Butterfly, but they do know how to propel themselves forward, using
their legs in a kicking motion, and they do know how to control their
breath when their face is under water. This they know by instinct.
FACT: Babies who have learned to
swim as an
infant are also more likely to walk
quicker
than babies that didn't.
Your
Baby's Development
|
During
the time in the womb, your baby has been floating, and water is the
most natural environment for them. It is usually one they love and
there are few new babies who do not like bath time, unless they feel
unsafe. That though, is more about their parent’s
confidence, than their own.
|
 |
Unfortunately, by
the time a baby reaches their first birthday, this memory, and the
instincts that go with it, will have faded, and by eighteen months, it
will be gone altogether.
Fear of water could
already slowly
begin growing within them....
A
toddler may develop a fear of water, which could last their whole lives
and deprive them of a healthy form of both exercise and
pleasure.
The program outlined in this
ebook will not only be a great beginning for your child’s
overall development, but it will help you to recover from pregnancy and
further strengthen the family bond.
Teaching
your baby

|
Throughout
the course you will accompany your child in the water –
creating an excellent opportunity for the two of you to interact, bond
and learn together. Don’t worry if you do not swim
yourself, you will never be out of your depth and you can use the
opportunity to increase your own confidence in the water.

The
benefits for your baby
Swimming
with your baby builds confidence, trust and communication skills, so
that your baby can experience the positive health benefits of swimming
such as improved stamina and breathing. It will strengthen
your baby's heart, lung and respiratory system and improve
your baby's mental outlook.
As
well as water confidence and safety, your baby will benefit from the
strength, co-ordination and cardiovascular exercises. The
course also encourages language skills and a strong bond between parent
and child develops, helping a baby to relax whilst stimulating the
senses in a variety of ways.
|
Before your
baby can walk, or even crawl, your baby can swim. They will be
supported by the water and be free to exercise their limbs as much as
they want. They love it!
It's also a
great bonding experience for Dads and it's one of the few things Dad
can do independently with his very young baby.

How
soon should you start
teaching your baby to swim?
Most people agree that getting your baby used to water and starting
baby swimming early is one of the best starts you can give your child.
Parents
used to be advised to wait until their baby had had their immunizations
at two, three and four months before they took their babies swimming.
But government health experts no longer believe this is necessary, so
when you start is really up to you. The sooner the better!
