Margaret Ingram, who was born in 1953, fell in love with swimming whilst she was a very small child.

She says  "I cannot remember not swimming.  Both of my parents were good and regular swimmers, so it was natural for me to swim".
She was amazed when she went to school and found this was not the case for every child.

After attending university and then obtaining her teaching qualifications, she specialized in Physical Education for young children.  It was then she found that amongst the children she taught,  those who could swim were, in general, more physically capable than those who had not been taught.

She married in 1976 and when she had her first child, she taught him to swim, in the way she had been taught; later when her daughter came along, she followed the same pattern, refining it along the way.

Along with Colin her husband (who had been trained in child development), they ran classes to teach toddlers to swim on a regular basis and found that the classes were usually oversubscribed.  Parents reported that their children were developing, not only physically, but mentally as well.

These classes still continue, even though Margaret and Colin are rarely involved.

When she retired in 2003 she decided that she should try to put the principles of her teaching experience into a form that would be available to all parents and she hoped these principle will be adopted as soon as possible after the birth of the child.  She decided on e-book format because she felt it would keep the price at such a level that every parent could benefit, without the costs being prohibitive.

She tells us  "The rapid increase in child obesity can only be controlled with a balanced diet and regular exercise.  Swimming is the perfect exercise because is uses all the muscles within the body.  A child who has learned to swim as baby and who is given the opportunity to swim on a regular basis
is most unlikely to have with a weight problem and very unlikely to become obese".

Margaret hopes that you enjoy reading this e-book, as much as she has enjoyed writing it, and that it encourages you to ensure child  becoms a 'water baby', with all the added health and mental advantages that come with it.
